DPV Pilot Course

Diver propulsion vehicles (DPVs or “scooters”) can greatly extend a diver’s range, help in dealing with strong currents — and are just plain fun to drive. That’s the good news. The bad news is, there are hazards and risks associated with DPV use that simply don’t exist when swimming. These can include:
- The fact a DPV can take you farther away from your exit point in ten minutes than you can swim back on a single tank of air.
- You can get lost more easily.
- The risk of lung overpressure injuries or DCS due to rapid ascent increases.
- If you don’t know what you are doing, you can cause considerable damage to yourself, your equipment or the environment by running into things.
Responsible DPV use is not something you can learn on your own. It takes training, which is what the DPV Pilot course is all about.
